Composite fillings are a desirable alternative to mercury fillings in that they are aesthetically attractive, environmentally non-toxic, and they are stronger because they bond directly to the tooth, protecting it from future fracturing. A composite filling is a quartz-like material that is the color of a tooth, so that you can maintain a beautiful, white smile.
Crowns (also referred to as caps) are needed when a tooth is badly decayed or fractured to the point that a regular filling won’t solve the problem. Crowns also are used to protect and strengthen the teeth when damage and decay has made it so that there is not enough tooth structure to support large fillings or prevent future fractures.
A dental bridge is an excellent way to replace a missing tooth, both functionally and cosmetically. A bridge is a single appliance that is typically attached to two teeth on each side of the space where a tooth is missing. An artificial tooth is attached to the middle of the bridge, therefore filling in the gap where the missing tooth was. It works very similar to natural teeth.
Dental implants are a fantastic solution for replacing missing teeth that have been lost due to injury, decay, or any other reason. After surgically attaching the implant to your jaw bone, an artificial tooth is attached to the top of the implant. This creates a natural looking replacement for your missing tooth. Implants are stable, strong, durable, and virtually undetectable.
Root canal therapy is an excellent way to save a decayed tooth that would otherwise die and need to be removed. Root canal therapy can solve your chronic pain issues and stop the infection from spreading to other teeth.
Prevention and Gum Care
Cleanings and Exams
Regular cleanings and dental examinations are essential parts of maintaining good dental health and forming a foundation for preventing gum disease and tooth decay. Preventing disease is always better than treating disease.
At our office, we have the latest in advanced, digital radiography. Dental x-rays (or radiographs) are an essential part of keeping you healthy. Dental x-rays allow us to see things about your oral health that can’t be seen by the naked eye.
Gum disease (Periodontal Disease) is the reason for approximately 70 percent of adult tooth loss. Plaque, saliva, and bacteria get stuck inside the space between the gum line and the tooth, which causes the gums to become swollen and inflamed.
Protective sealants are an excellent way to protect chewing surfaces of teeth from decay. Sealants can stop small amounts of decay from growing larger, often preventing the need for fillings or more elaborate, costly dental work.
Cosmetic Bonding can restore chipped teeth and fill gaps between teeth. It can be used to smooth out rough or jagged edges on front teeth, and it can correct stained or dull colored teeth in cases where teeth whitening is not an option.
Porcelain Bridges and Crowns
In the General Dentistry section, we explain how bridges and crowns are used to protect decayed and fractured teeth or replace missing teeth. They can prevent future dental problems, solve chronic pain issues, and keep your mouth healthy.
If your teeth are stained or dull in color, tooth whitening is a great solution to dramatically whiten your smile.
